Papers, 1799-1815.

This collection contains letters and poetry of Sukey Vickery, 1799-1815. Included are printed poems as they appeared in the Massachusetts Spy in 1801 as well as several poems in her handwriting entitled "To Adelaide," "Address to Hope," and "Ode for the New Year, Jan. 1st, 1784." The latter was apparently written several years after that date as a tribute to the successful conclusion of the American Revolution. There is a letter written to Isaiah Thomas, Jr. (1773-1819) concerning his proposed publication of her novel and her desire for anonymity, a lengthy letter addressed to Adelaide Hartwell ( - ) of Leicester in 1799 concerning the troubles of a mutual friend, and a fragment of Sukey Vickery's diary, 18-22 December 1815, with entries pertaining to the education of her daughters.
