Vickery, Sukey, 1779-1821
Variant namesSukey Vickery (1779-1821), poet and novelist of Leicester, Mass., was educated at Leicester Academy and wrote poetry for the Massachusetts Spy, Worcester, Mass., under the pseudonym "Fidelia" during the period 1801 to 1802. She also produced the first novel to be published in Worcester County, Emily Hamilton (1803). In 1804, Sukey married Samuel Watson (1782-1872) of Leicester, a successful manufacturer and a representative to the Massachusetts legislature.
