This volume contains receipts, for the period 1804 to 1834, written and signed by his clients for money received in court settlements, and by district attorneys for their clients' settlements. Also included are receipts for the purchase of a variety of goods (e.g., clothing and groceries), and for his clerks' salaries and tax, rent, and mortgage payments made by Irving. There are also references to the sale of land owned by him. Included in the volume are receipts of Nathan Sanford (1777-1838) and John Swartwout ( - ). The folder contains similar receipts, for the period 1812 to 1834, and the remnants of the original leather binding by Peter A. Mesier (1772?-1847) of New York, as well as his binder's ticket.

John Treat Irving (1778-1838), the older brother of Washington Irving (1783-1859) and the husband of Abby Spicer Furman Irving ( - ), was a New York attorney.
