Correspondence, 1882-1922.

This collection of letters written to Dowse, 1882-1922, is valuable primarily for the autographs. The majority of the letters are responses to speaking or dinner invitations tendered by Dowse on behalf of the Massachusetts Press Club. There are some references to political concerns, such as a letter from Mary Ashton Rice Livermore (1830-1905), president of the Massachusetts Woman's Suffrage Association, concerning Rep. Dowse's support of the cause. Several letters from Gov. Channing Harris Cox (1879- ) express appreciation for Dowse's efforts during the gubernatorial campaign of 1922. Other correspondents include Sen. Winthrop Murray Crane (1853-1920), Julia Ward Howe (1819-1910), and Rev. Edward Augustus Horton (1843-1931), chaplain of the Massachusetts Senate.
