Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area. He is descended from the Thatchers of Uffington, England, the same family as Denis Thatcher, husband of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. From the description of H.H. Hubert Howe Bancroft was a historian, bibliophile, book dealer, and entrepreneur, born in 1832 in Granville, Ohio. Opened a bookstore in San Francisco in 1856, which became extremely important in the trade of Western history materials. Bancroft's library later formed the nucleus of the Bancroft Library at the Univ. of California, Berkeley.
