Nineteenth-century, multi-denominational group supporting ministers on American frontier. Became increasingly Congregational. Correspondence and pamphlets describe individual schools located primarily in the Midwest and West, but including all of the states. Letters from missionaries in the Midwest, the society's secretary in New York and secretaries located in various regions, reflect frontier conditions, internal ecclesiastical conditions, education in various states, and economic, social and political problems. Topics include European immigrants, and denominationalism.

John F. Cook of Hardwick, Vt., was commissioned sergeant of Co. I of the Third Vermont Regiment in June of 1862. He was subsequently promoted to 2nd lieutenant in Co. I, and then moved to Co.
