Benjamin S. Williams was the son of Col. Gilbert W.M. Williams, commander of the 47th Georgia Volunteer Regiment. Benjamin enlisted in the Confederate States Army at Savannah and began his service in 1861 in the 1st Corp, 1st Company F of the 25th Georgia Regiment.
