Congressman and Minister. Buchanan was born in Paris, Tenn. in 1928. He was ordained into the Baptist ministry in 1952 and served as pastor of churches in Virginia, Tennessee, and Alabama from 1952-1964. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1964 as a Republican from Alabama's 6th District, Buchanan was a member of Congress from 1965-1980.
