Hermann Hagedorn was born in New York City in 1882 and educated at Harvard University, the University of Berlin, and Columbia University. From 1909 to 1911 he was an instructor in English at Harvard. Hagedorn was a friend and biographer of Theodore Roosevelt and served as Secretary and Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Association from 1919 to 1957. Franklin Samuel (Frank) Hatch was born in Chelsea, Vermont, on August 12, 1846. He graduated from Phillips Academy in 1869, Amherst College in 1873, and Hartford Theological Seminary around 1876. He served as pastor of West Hartford, Connecticut Congregational Church from 1876-1883; Colchester, Connecticut from 1886-1887; Monson, Massachusetts from 1887-1900; Newton, Massachusetts from 1904-1907; Middleboro, Massachusetts, 1907.
