The Minerva Collins notebooks consists of four course notebooks. The first notebook has handwriting on the cover which reads: "Zoology M.W.F. 1:30-3:30 / Kentucky State University 1908 / Minerva Collins / Prof. A.H. Gilbert." The first mimeographed page says, "There will be a few preliminary lessons in cooking, relative to the preserving of fruit in different ways." It contains mimeographed pages of recipes and a few handwritten pages. The second, third, and fourth notebooks all contain handwritten notes and drawings of biological organisms. The second notebook reads, "Botany / Ky. State University 1908 / Minerva Collins Agr. Bldg / Prof. Gilbert." The notes and drawings of cells inside, however, are dated 1909. The third notebook reads, "Botany / 1908 / K. M. Schoene?" and contains notes and drawings of plant life dated 1908 and 1909. The fourth notebook had no writing on the cover and the pages were loose, it appears that the pages may not have originally been together in one notebook. Dates on the pages are all from 1908 and contain drawings of animal life such as mold, including marine life such as squid, and crab.

Minerva Collins Wellington, of Hindman, Kentucky, was the first woman to graduate with a degree in Agriculture from the University of Kentucky. She attended UK from 1908 to 1911, when she received her Bachelor of Science degree. Ms. Collins was Vice-president of the Neville Literary Society, as well as Secretary of the Senior Class of 1911.
