This volume begins with a diary kept by Scobey in Andover beginning 22 September 1831. There are sporadic entries mostly about his studies (and some in shorthand) until March 1832 when the entries become more regular and are almost entirely reports of sermons and a few other lectures Scobey heard, apparently all in Andover. These continue through 18 October 1832, and there is a final entry dated 7 July 1833. When the volume is turned over, approximately fifteen leaves have been torn out. These appear to have contained financial accounts. There is also a page of accounts dated "Spring Term 1839" with the names of a number of Scobey's Dartmouth classmates.

Scobey, David Cochran, 1814-1850

David Cochran Scobey (1814-1850), the son of William ( - ) and Jane Dickey Scobey (1791-1877), was born in Francestown, N.H., on 10 September 1814. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1839, attended Andover Theological Seminary during the 1841-1842 term, and taught languages in the Lowell, Mass., high school from 1842 until his death in 1850.
