Diary, 1787.

This diary contains brief entries interleaved in an almanac (the printed title page is missing). There are references to Shays' Rebellion (e.g., reports of deaths among the "mob" in Springfield, Mass., and troop movements), as well as references to his preachings, visits among his parishioners and to neighboring towns. All entries record weather patterns, and several refer to pulpit exchanges, his attendance at funerals, parish and town meetings, and meetings of the Worcester Association of Ministers. Several pages contain Ward's financial accounts including a list of parishioners who donated wood. There is also a brief list of deaths which occurred in town.

Ephraim Ward (1741-1818), minister of West Brookfield, Mass., was born in Newton, Mass., and graduated from Harvard in 1763. He taught school in Dedham, Mass., before returning to Harvard to complete his ministerial training. In 1771 Ward was ordained in West Brookfield and remained there until his death in 1818.
