Papers, 1868-1897.

This collection contains thirty-three items for the period from 1868 to 1897. They concern primarily the dealings of the Worcester Music Festival and consist of accounts, financial statements, and the telegrams and letters from noted musicians and managers, such as Bernhard Listemann (1841-1917) and George Frederick Root (1820-1895), in response to invitations to perform in the Festival. The letters refer to the artists' programs and fees. Included also are letters from music dealers, Worcester County Musical Association correspondence with members, and a draft of the 1882 Festival program.

Alexander Cole Munroe (1831-1911), of Worcester, Mass., was one of the founders of the Worcester County Musical Association (1863), serving as its secretary for twenty-three years and briefly as president. He was a leading organizer of the Worcester Music Festivals and a member of many local choirs and musical societies.
