Records, 1757-1844.

This collection is a microfilm of a typescript copy of the records, 1757-1844, of the Dover, N.Y., First Baptist Church of Christ, in Dutchess County. The original records are in the possession of the church. Included are lists of new members, "particular votes" recorded, members dismissed and excommunicated (with a statement of reasons), dealings with offending members, especially those involved in disputes, and complaints recorded against specific members. In addition to the earliest "solemn covenant," the records also contain a list of baptisms, membership lists for 1804 and 1823, and minutes of church meetings during the nineteenth century.

The First Baptist Church, Dover, N.Y., was organized in 1757 and is the oldest church in the town of Dover (known as Pawlingstown) during the eighteenth century).
