This collection includes mostly receipts and some correspondence from 1853 to 1890. The receipts include acknowledgements of payment for: clothing, foodstuff, books, taxes, subscriptions to periodicals, society memberships, etc. Also included are Cullis' physician's license for 1863, 1864, and 1865, and notices of his book deposits in the Library of Congress from 1873 to 1890. Receipts and correspondence are interfiled by date. The correspondence concerns personal matters and items relating to Cullis' various properties.

Charles Cullis (1833-1892) was a Boston homeopathic physician who was a leader in the faith-cure movement. In 1865, he opened his first home for consumptives in Boston. Many other homes in Boston and other cities followed: "Spinal Home," "Faith-Cure House," "Deaconess House," "Lewis Mission," "Faith Training College," and homes in Boynton, Va., Alameda, Cal., Renicks Valley, W.
