George F. Parker was born in Indiana. He moved to Iowa with his family where he attended school and graduated from the State University of Iowa. After graduation he returned to the family farm before becoming the editor and proprietor of a Warren County, Iowa Democratic weekly paper. This was the first of numerous editor positions with newspapers in Iowa, Indiana, Washington, D.C., New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and New York City.
