Civil War diaries, 1860-1863.

The collection consists of two diaries written by Lancelot C. Ewbank from 1860 to 1863, two copy photographs of Ewbank and his family, a transcription of the diaries, and photocopies of the diaries.

Cruft was born in Terre Haute, Indiana. He graduated from Wabash College in 1842. He was employed as a bank clerk, lawyer, president of the St. Louis, Alton, and Terre Haute Railroad (1855–1858), and published Terre Haute's Wabash Express newspaper (1861-1872). Davis was born in Clark County, Indiana, near present-day Memphis, Indiana. He was born to William Davis, Jr. (1800–1879) and Mary Drummond-Davis (1801–1881), the oldest of their eight children. Lancelot Chapman Ewbank was born in Parke County, Indiana in 1837 and by 1860 was working as a carpenter and a school teacher. During the Civil War he mustered into the 31st Indiana Volunteers in 1861 and mustered out in 1864.
