Charles Eliot Goodspeed's correspondence, notes, and rough draft of a paper concerning the writing, printing, and publication of the earliest New England Primer. In an 1849 letter from George Livermore to Rev. R.C. Waterston, Livermore expressed his surprise at the interest generated by his work on the New England Primer. Also some correspondence related to Richard Franck's Northern Memoirs and Philosophical Treatise.

Charles E. Goodspeed was the founder of several bookstores in Boston and a dealer in rare books and manuscripts. Most of his writings were bibliographical, compiling A treasury of fishing stories and Nathaniel Hawthorne and the Museum of the Salem East India Marine Society, or, The gathering of a virtuoso's collection, both published in 1946.
