Edmund P. Cerrute was born on Oct. 19, 1889 in New York City. He entered the Society of Jesus on Sept. 7, 1911. After spending three years at the Novitiate of St. Andrew-on-Hudson in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., he was sent in 1915 to Woodstock College in Maryland, where he began his studies in philosophy. In 1918 Father Cerrute was transferred to St. Joseph's College, Philadelphia, Pa., where he remained until returning to Woodstock in 1922 to study theology.
