Consists of three generations of van Dyke family papers, primarily the writings, correspondence, journals, and printed matter of Henry van Dyke, Jr. Other family members represented include Henry Jackson van Dyke, Sr., Henrietta (Ashmead) van Dyke, Paul van Dyke, and Tertius van Dyke. In addition to the types of materials mentioned above, the collection includes photographs, documents, receipts, memorabilia, newspapers clippings, and miscellanea, as well as a selection of papers by non-van Dyke family. The Transylvania Presbytery was organized by appointment of the synods of New York and Philadelphia. The Synod of New York made part of the Presbytery of Abingdon into the Transylvania Presbytery, which encompassed the district of Kentucky and the settlements on the Cumberland River.
