Simon G. Jerrard papers, 1862-1902 (bulk 1862-1863).

The Simon G. Jerrard Papers consist of official papers and a few of Jerrard's personal items pertaining principally to his service under General Nathaniel P. Banks in South Louisiana. The official papers include morning reports, final statements and inventories of deceased soldiers' effects, ordnance records, special orders, provision returns, and other records documenting the organizing, training, equipping, and moving of the regiment from Maine to Virginia and its service in Louisiana. The personal papers include a copy of Jerrard's manuscript history of the 22nd Maine Infantry, discussing mortality at Camp Banks in Baton Rouge, La., its role in quelling African-American uprisings, and the siege of Port Hudson. Also included are commissions appointing Jerrard to various local and county offices in Maine after the war.

Colonel Simon G. Jerrard of Levant, Me., served with the 22nd Maine Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, serving extensively in South Louisiana.
