On April 22, 1889 Gideon Lee filed suit on behalf of his minor daughter, Floride Isabella Lee, in order to contest the will of the late Thomas Green Clemson who had passed away on April 6, 1888. Thomas Green Clemson had made it known through the codicil to his will that on the Fort Hill estate would be established an agricultural college.
