This collection includes correspondence, photographs, ephemera, printed materials, and clippings related to the life and work of Walter F. Hyland, SJ. These materials document the celebration of Hyland's first Mass, his golden jubilee as a Jesuit and Priest, and the fiftieth anniversary of his 1922 Boston College class, as well as Jesuit missions, the Filipino Jesuit community, liberation of the Philippines, and Hyland's release from a Japanese internment camp.

Jesuit priest. Hyland graduated from Boston English High School (1918) and attended Boston College for two years before entering the Jesuit order (1920). He was awarded Bachelor's (1925) and Master's degrees (1927) from Gonzaga University. Hyland taught in the Philippines prior to being ordained (1933).
