Harold Barton papers, 1944-1949.

Papers in this collection document Harold Barton's years in Civilian Public Service as a conscientious objector to World War II, especially his work with the Civilian Public Service's Mental Hygiene Program at the Philadelphia State Hospital at Byberry, and his work with the National Mental Health Foundation (a predecessor of the National Mental Health Association). Also includes reference material about mental hospitals in the United States, including two manuscripts: "Out of Sight, Out of Mind: The Story of Forgotten Thousands" by Frank L. Wright and "Concerning the Least of These: The Story of Idiocy" by Grant M. Stoltzfus (CPS Unit #142).
