The Old Vault Collection contains documents, records, and correspondence relating to Texas history. The materials date from as early as 1796 to the late 1890's. The accumulation of these early papers began before the establishment of the Houston Metropolitan Research Center, and were originally kept in the library vault for safekeeping. Ima Hogg, daughter of Governor James Stephen Hogg, was born in Mineola, Texas, on July 10, 1882. After graduating from the University of Texas, between 1901 and 1909 she studied music in New York, Berlin, and Vienna. She then moved to Houston, where she gave piano lessons to a select group of pupils and helped found the Houston Symphony Orchestra.
