ALS, 1814 October 30 : Washington, to James T. Austin.

Written as vice-president, Gerry reports on the latest intelligence received from the French Minister and Senator Fromentin. He also reports on domestic news: " ... in regard to our army near Fort Erie, Mr. Lovell ... states that G. Drummond who had received reinforcements ... was retreating and pursued by General Izard ... God grant success to the pursuit ... at Snowdens plantation ... news had just arrived of the landing of the enemy at Annapolis ..." One of Gerry's last letters, written shortly before his sudden death.
