Papers of Marblehead, Mass., merchants Samuel R. Gerry (1750-1807) and his son Capt. Samuel R. Gerry (born ca. 1784), including correspondence with Joseph Gardoqui & Sons, Butlers & Mathew, and other merchants and agents. Correspondence and business accounts concern trade with Bilbao, Spain, Batavia (Jakarta), Indonesia, and other ports. Family and business correspondence of Elbridge Gerry and Thomas Gerry is included; also, Capt. Samuel R. Gerry's orders and letters from Isaac Hull while serving as Sailing Master in Portland, Maine. Other correspondents include Philadelphia merchant Joshua Howell, Boston merchant Samuel Parkman, John Rose Greene, and Catharine Gerry. Correspondence of the William Gerry Keene family (1884-95) of Lynn, Mass. is also included.
