ALS, 1787 August 21 (misdated by Gerry as 1778) : to his wife [Ann Thompson Gerry].

Written as a delegate to the Federal Convention in Philadelphia, Gerry refers to his Will which Alexander Hamilton was drawing up for him. At the Convention Gerry was very much ill at ease as he missed being away from his new family back in Cambridge. Ultimately he voted against the new Constitution. He writes: "I am as sick of being here as You can conceive. Most of the time I am at Home or in the convention. I do not think in a Week I am ten hours anywhere else. We meet now at ten & sit till four; but entre nous, I do not expect to give my voice to the measures ..."
