A German immigrant and baker, Emil Ganso had a strong but short career as a painter and printmaker. His first exhibition was at the Weyhe Gallery in 1926, and Carl Zigrosser and Erhard Weyhe fondly looked after Ganso's career. Many of the letters from Ganso are undated, some are in German. The topics of the letters are typical of an artist writing to his dealer: progress of work, pieces shipped, arrangements for exhibitions and competitions, sales and finances. Zigrosser also helped Ganso write his application for a Guggenheim Fellowship, and helped him find posts as ateacher at Lawrence College in Appleton, Wisconsin and at the State University of Iowa at Iowa City. There is a long and gossipy letter about Gra nt Wood and the faculty at the State University at Iowa. Ganso died suddenly on April 18th, 1941. Zigrosser and Ganso were friends as well as business associates, many of the undated letters are friendly notes and invitations to visit the Ganso's in Woodstock, N.Y. Included is a print by Jules Pascin inviting guests to a party at Ganso's studio. Pascin and Ganso shared a studio. Included in the file are exhibition announcements, newspaper clippings, magazine articles, obituaries, a typed list of works by Ganso (with prices) held by Weyhe Gallery at the time of Ganso's death, letters and press releases related to memorial exhibitions and a 1944 retrospective. In the undated material is a 1926 biographical sketch and press release announcing that Ganso will bake a special cake for the opening of his first exhibition.

Jules Pascin, artist, was born on March 31, 1885 in Widden, Bulgaria as Julius Pincas. He moved to Paris in 1905 and changed his name.
