Manuscript letter signed (in hand of Jessie B. Fremont), 1847 October 8 : Washington City, to the Secretary of War [William L. Marcy].

This letter was written about a month before Fremont's court-martial began. It refers to funds disbursed to the "California Battalion." $40,000 is required to pay liabilities he incurred as Military Commandant during the war in California and as Civil Governor of the Territory.
