Letters, deeds, bills, military papers, legal documents, wills and estate papers, slave documents, and other items largely pertaining to people and events in New Rochelle and vicinity. Of note are several Clinton family letters, 1761-1826; letter of Mary Willis to her daughter Betsey Brown concerning children, 1790; draft of a letter from Robert R. Livingston to George Washington concerning affairs of the Committee of Safety, ca. 1776; letters pertaining to Revolutionary War matters, 1779-1787; letter from Oliver DeLancey concerning militia affairs, 1755; and original deed to New Rochelle, 1689. Other names represented include Nathan Secord, Charles Carville, Katherine Carville, William Henderson, John Pugsley, the Livingston family, and the L'Estrange family. Papers pertaining to Thomas Paine include a petition signed by Thomas Paine, 1793; and letters from Paine to Madame Bonneville, Senator Garat, Benjamin Mosely, Elisha Babcock, and Mr. Breckenridge of Kentucky, 1792-1805, concerning political and personal matters.
