Materials pertaining to the history of the Town and Village of Bedford, including two albums of photographs and text assembled by the Bedford Historical Society, concerning the 200th anniversary of the United States Constitution and the Bedford Court House, 1897-1988; album of clippings on the history of Bedford, 1987; photocopy of transcription of tombstone inscriptions in the Old Burying Ground, done in 1917; portfolio of maps produced by the Westchester County Planning Dept. in 1943 concerning the Revolutionary War, political subdivision, highways, sewers, public properties, population distribution, and other topics; typescript copy of estate papers of Rev. Thomas Denham, 1689-1691, first resident minister in Town of Bedford; nine volume series of printed typescripts of Bedford's historical records, consisting of minutes of town meetings and related documents, 1680-1841, land records, 1680-1800, records concerning Bedford soldiers of the Revolution, 1763-1790, cemetery records of the Town, 1681-1975, and genealogy of the 22 original settlers; book of photographs assembled by the Bedford Historical Society, depicting people and scenes in Bedford and neighboring villages, 1867-1980; and an autograph album of Louisa G. Day, 1880-1889, largely of friends and family, but also including Rutherford B. Hayes and members of his cabinet.

Rutherford B. Hayes was born in Delaware, Ohio, in 1822 and earned degrees from Kenyon College and Harvard Law School before starting a career as a lawyer in Cincinnati. Hayes served as a major general in the Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War and was elected to the U.S. Congress in 1864. Hayes then was elected Governor of Ohio and later served one term as President of the United States (1877-1881) before retiring to his home in Fremont, Ohio, where he died in 1893.President of the Uni...
