The American Craftsmen's Cooperative Council was founded in 1943. The name was changed in 1950 to American Craftsmen's Educational Council; in 1955 to American Craftsmen's Council; in 1969 to American Crafts Council; and in 1979 to American Craft Council. The Council was founded to serve as an educational organization to foster appreciation of the work of American craftsmen.
