Robert Sanders Papers, 1758-1765.

As a merchant, Robert Sanders had dealings with a wide variety of individuals in the Albany, N.Y. area. His relations with these individuals are recorded in the account book of his store and in his correspondence. The account book contains a two page listing of accounts with Col. William Johnson that cover the period from 1749 to 1750. The correspondence is organized alphabetically by the last name of the correspondent and consists of over 250 items.

Robert Sanders was an Albany merchant who ran a general store during the mid-eighteenth century. He also served in the commissary during the French and Indian War. The account book of the store and the letterbook of letters written during the war provide fine examples of Albany Commerce, and the movement of military supplies during the French and Indian War. Sander's daughter Maria married Philip Van Rensselaer, establishing his link to the Van Rensselaer family. Sanders died in 1765. ...
