Chunn/Land family papers, 1828-1925 (bulk 1860-1890)

Letters, land deeds, business correspondence, and receipts relating to the Elizabeth Word and Samuel L. Chunn family of Cass (later Bartow) Co., GA, and the Nathan and Mona Arrington Land family. Papers document Civil War conditions, including the destruction of Cassville in 1864, Reconstruction struggles, immigration to Texas, agriculture, small businesses, land investment, family relations, the status of African-Americans, sickness and health care, and death. Although the collection is mostly Georgian, with Bartow, Twiggs, Coweta, and Forsyth Counties being the best represented, there are many letters and records from South Carolina, Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee also.
