The function of the Prison Inspector was to insure that prisons and almshouses were operated according to the law. This series of engineering and architectural drawings documents the plans for building county jails and almshouses. There is also a plan for a county courthouse in Jefferson County, a municipal building in Phenix City, a North Carolina convict camp, and a sewage disposal system for American Net and Twine in Anniston, Ala. Of specific interest is a volume of hand drawn plans of jails and almshouses that was kept by C.F. Bush, Inspector, and John D. Davis, Clerk. They include jails and almshouses in Autauga, Baldwin, Barbour, Bibb, Blount, Bullock, Butler, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, and Winston Counties.
