Also included is a letter and notebook, 1864-1873, regarding his paintings; letters to his wife and relatives, 1872-1874, regarding personal and family matters; and personal memoranda diaries, 1869 and 1875.

Born and raised in Belmont, Massachusetts, enlisted in 1862 to serve three years with 1st Massachusetts Regiment Heavy Artillery.
