A collection of papers relating to Benjamin Stone's personal, military, and artistic careers. Included are official orders, memoranda, certificate of appointment, discharge certificate, and other documents concerning his service in the 1st Massachusetts Regiment, Heavy Artillery. Also included is a letter and notebook, 1864-1873, regarding his paintings; letters to his wife and relatives, 1872-1874, regarding personal and family matters; and personal memoranda diaries, 1869 and 1875.

Born and raised in Belmont, Massachusetts, enlisted in 1862 to serve three years with 1st Massachusetts Regiment Heavy Artillery.
