Rumph family collection.

This collection contains one scrapbook of clippings from the Civil War, mainly clippings about the Perote Guards. Some clippings cover pages of plantation accounts from 1836 to 1842. Another account book covers the time period from 1903 to 1911. Another scrapbook was made by Mrs. J. D. Rumph, III, in 1930. This one includes a history of Perote (Ala.)

The Rumph family was a prominent family in Perote, Bullock County (Ala.) They originally migrated from Germany to South Carolina. Dr. James D. Rumph and his wife, Caroline M. Rumph, were the first of the family to migrate to Alabama, settling first in Barbour County and later moving to Bullock County. James Rumph served in the Florida Seminole War of 1836 as a surgeon and practiced his profession in Perote until his death.
