Files of Robert J. Hunter, chairman of Osler Memorial Committee, documenting restoration of autopsy house at Philadelphia General Hospital and its transformation into museum and memorial to Sir William Osler with materials concerning building dedication, 8 June 1940. Includes correspondence, minutes, reports, notes, memoranda, programs, invitations, and drafts of speeches. Series 2 contains minutes, memoranda, and reports to Medical Board of Philadelphia General Hospital documenting committee activities and museum accessions with Hunter's notes concerning his work on committee. Also includes 1913 photograph of Osler at Bayview Hospital, and three typescript letters signed from Osler to William E. Parker, 1894. Series 3 contains acceptance and regret letters from individuals invited to dedication of Osler Memorial. Series 4 includes drafts of program for dedication and drafts of speeches by Robert J. Hunter, W. G. MacCallum, and John L. Bower.

The Osler Memorial Committee was formed in October 1939. The committee was appointed by David Riesman, President of the Medical Board of the Philadelphia General Hospital. The original members of the committee were chairman Robert J. Hunter, William G. Turnbull, and William E. Hughes; Riesman was an ex officio member. Born in Ontario, Canada, Dr. Osler was received his medical from McGill University in 1872. He became Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine's first professor of medicine in 1889. Muralist, painter, illustrator. Cornwell was born in Louisville, Ky. in 1892. He attended the Chicago Art Institute and began his career as a newspaper and magazine illustrator. He painted murals for the lobby of the Eastern Airlines Building at Rockefeller Plaza, the Hotel Warwick's Raleigh Room, and the Los Angeles Public Library.
