Herndon family papers, 1830-1890.

This is a collection of the personal and business papers of the Herndon family, of Kentucky and points west. The collection includes notes, deeds, wills, court settlements, indentures, daybooks, farm records, receipts, genealogical information on the Herndon, Bate and Washington families and photographs, which have been removed to the library's Photographic Archives (PA60M158).

David Herndon and his wife, Mary Moorman Herndon, came to Kentucky from Virginia in the early nineteenth century. They settled on farmland extending through Meade and Breckinridge counties before moving on to Missouri. One of their sons, Richard S. Herndon, maintained and added to the Kentucky farm. Another son, William Herndon, settled in Texas, and a third, J.M. Herndon, moved to Missouri with his parents. The Herndons also had a daughter, Laetitia Herndon Heth. From the descriptio...
