Marriott Brosius was born in Colerain Township, Lancaster County, Pa. on Mar. 7, 1843. He attended the common schools and Thomas Baker's academy in Colerain Township. In October of 1861, he enlisted as a private in Company K, 97th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was severely wounded at Green Plain, Va. and was honorably discharged in Dec. 1864. He was later commissioned a second lieutenant for bravery on the field of battle. After the war, he attended Millersville Normal School (1865-1866)...
