This collection contains a broad range of subjects from 1861-1965 and includes cartes de visite of Union soldiers from the Civil War, probably from the Buckley Post No. 12, G.A.R., Akron, Ohio; stereoviews relating to the U.S.S. Maine including images of the ship, the wreck of the U.S.S. Maine, the ship's captain, and of the flag-draped caskets of the casualties; and ephemera relating to World's Fairs held in the United States from 1893-1965. Among the ephemera are souvenir booklets and guides, railroad tickets, sheets of official letterhead stationary, souvenir views in a cloth bag, postcards, fair pass and bumper sticker. Many of the cartes de visite of Union soldiers are collectible photographs from the Mathew Brady studio in Washington, D.C.

USS Maine (BB/2C), an armored battle ship, was blown up in Havana Harbor on February 15, 1898. A court of inquiry was unable to obtain evidence regarding the cause of the ship's destruction.
