Charles W. Hutchinson and family papers, 1803-1948 (bulk 1864-1888).

Papers of Charles W. Hutchinson include receipts, bills, shipping invoices, letters from art and antique dealers, travel tickets, and items which document his travels and purchases of household and art objects in Europe and New York. Papers of Holmes Hutchinson include a certificate concerning specifications for maps of New York canals, a schedule of contracts for the enlargement and improvement of the Erie Canal (1836?), a document of the Ontario Steamboat Company, a broadside issued by Hutchinson as president of the Osewgo and Syracuse Railroad Company (1853), and a fragmentary check stub book of the railroad company. Papers of Edwin Hutchinson include a United States passport containing his physical description (1885), and his Yale University classbook which contains photographs and letters of school associates including George L. Catlin. Manuscript volumes include the Oswego and Syracuse Railroad Company check stub book, the Yale University classbook, a Brabazon family history, probably compiled by L. G. Dillon, and a scrapbook with engraved pictures of the kings of France. Printed volumes include a Rand, McNally and Company history of the Spanish-American War, with a map (1898), and "Principalia monumenti di Roma" (n.d.). The collection contains photographs and other pictures of individuals including Yale faculty, American scientists, clergy, authors, and military leaders, genealogical material concerning the Hutchinson, Lintner and Dillon families, and miscellaneous items such as French lottery tickets and a printed church program.

Charles W. Hutchinson, a commission merchant of Utica, New York, collected furnishings and art objects in New York City and Europe. His father, Holmes Hutchinson (d. 1865), an engineer, was involved with construction of the New York State Canal, was president of the Oswego and Syracuse Railroad Company, and was a director of the Ontario Steamboat Company.
