Correspondence and political papers of George Grenville (1712-1770) together with some papers of his brother, Richard Grenville-Temple, Earl Temple (1711-1779). The papers primarily concern the political career of George Grenville, with particular emphasis on the years 1763-1765, when he was chief minister. The collection contains correspondence from most of the leading political figures of the era, including the Earl of Halifax, Duke of Bedford, Earl of Bute, Charles Jenkinson, Earl of Egremont, and Thomas Whately. Among the subjects discussed are the Wilkes affair, unrest in the American colonies, disputes with France and Spain, election matters, and patronage. Also included are cabinet minutes (1748-1765) and papers relating to peace treaties (1761-1765).
