Bound scrapbook which contains newspaper clippings regarding the Mormon Church, polygamy, Van Zile's work as U.S. District Attorney, and other activities that took place in Utah during the early 1880's. Many items are accompanied by holograph notations by Van Zile. Also includes letters to Van Zile from William M. Thompson and Robert G. McNiece.

Rutherford B. Hayes was born in Delaware, Ohio, in 1822 and earned degrees from Kenyon College and Harvard Law School before starting a career as a lawyer in Cincinnati.
