In a letter of 1898 December 3, Boughton insists that he is not an agent for the sale of paintings. The letter of 1896 Jan. 20 discusses the death of Sir Frederick Leighton, president of the Royal Academy.

Boughton, George Henry, 1834-1905

Born in England, George Henry Boughton grew up in New York State but returned to England and made his reputation there. Boughton was elected to the Royal Academy of Art and known for his genre scenes of peasant life in Italy and for his illustrations to histories and romances of early New England.
