Disposition Authorities for Individual Classifications for Headquarters Case Files. Part B: Classification 181. Consumer Credit Protection Act.

The FBI established this classification in 1968 for investigations of banking institutions, including credit unions, for violations of the Truth in Lending Act of 1968. Various Federal regulatory agencies handle the intitial investigations and request the Bureau's involvement when necessary. the Bureau's investigative activity has been relatively limited.

The FBI established this classification when it assumed responsibility for ascertaining the protection capabilities and weaknesses of defense plants. Each plant survey was a separate case file, with the survey, supplemental surveys, and all communications dealing with a plant insofar as plant protection was concerned, filed together.
