Disposition Authorities for Individual Classifications for Headquarters Case Files. Part B: Classification 148 Interstate Transportation of Fireworks.

This classification, established in 1954, covers investigations of violations of Federal Statutes that bar the transportation of fireworks into any stat in which their sale or use is contrary to state law. Field Offices determine such violations on the basis of state laws in their therritory. The Bureau generally had been unsuccessful in securing prosecution of major manufacturers and distributors.

The FBI established this classification when it assumed responsibility for ascertaining the protection capabilities and weaknesses of defense plants. Each plant survey was a separate case file, with the survey, supplemental surveys, and all communications dealing with a plant insofar as plant protection was concerned, filed together.
