Art and artifacts collection, 1285-1935.

This collection of engravings, etchings, bronzes, illuminations, manuscripts, sheet music, and furniture includes works by Andrew F. Affleck, Boris Blai, Alex H. Haig, John Milton, Howard Pyle, and Rembrandt, with a focus on the subjects of medieval Christianity and the arts and religion. These materials were transferred from the Thomas Hall Library of Conwell School of Theology to Paley Library during 1969.

Boris Blai was born in Rovno, Russia in 1893 and learned sculpture studying with Auguste Rodin in Paris. In 1917 Blai immigrated to the U.S. and he taught art at the Oak Lane Country Day School, an affiliate of Temple University. In 1935 Blai founded the Tyler School of Art located on the estate of Stella Elkins Tyler, a former student of his.
