Isaac Ingalls Stevens letters, 1853.

Two letters by Stevens as leader of an official 1853 United States government expedition to survey northern railroad routes to the Pacific Ocean. The first (June 10), to his wife, comments on hiring the well-known guide Pierre Bottineau, and the second (August 7), to Bottineau, commends him on his service as guide.
